Summer months are very hot; the maximum day temperature varies from 45°C to 47°C in the months of May and June but drops appreciably with the onset of monsoon. When the monsoon withdraws in the month of October, the daytime temperature remains the same however the nights become cooler. Gradually both day and night temperatures fall. The coolest month is December when temperature at night varies between 6°C and 11°C.

Usually monsoon breaks in the third week of June and continues up to middle of September. Thunder storms usually occur during April or May. The average number of rainy days in a year is 100, of which 70 are confined to the period between June and September. The annual rainfall varies from 1250 to 1700 mm.

Humidity is generally high in the sanctuary. Maximum relative humidity is in October and minimum in April and May.

The sun path diagram shows the altitude and azimuth (i.e. height and direction) of the sun from the site, on each day of the year. In summer the sun rises from the east-north-east, passes almost directly over-head and sets in the west-north-west. In winter the sun rises from the east-south-east, passes to the south - reaching an altitude of perhaps 50 degrees - then sets in the west-south-west.

There is no large variation in daylight hours throughout the year. During the peak tourist season (winter) the sun rises around 6am and sets around 5:30pm.
